Which country paid for that research budget?

U.S. geoscientist Syukuro Manabe was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.
His nationality is definitely U.S.A., but...

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida issued a statement this month saying, "As a Japanese citizen, I am proud of the Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to Dr. Syukuro Manabe, a senior researcher at Princeton University.

The BBC reported him as an American, but news programs in Japan reported him as "a Japanese who won the Nobel Prize although his nationality is USA.

He is a Japanese-American, and as such, Japanese news programs frequently tend to report the achievements of Japanese-Americans as if they were the achievements of the Japanese people.

This is true not only in the field of science and technology, but also in the field of sports.

The Japanese Prime Minister should not be carefree and should take seriously the fact that many excellent Japanese researchers have given up their Japanese citizenship to become researchers in the US.

Japan is a country that does not budget for education or research, so it will continue to decline.
